Expansion of self is Brooks’ first autobiographical artwork. Created as a somewhat resting place for the criticism experienced in pursuing an education in art, the work becomes an almost self portrait. Depicting the cumulative pressure of the artist's inner thoughts, journey of self acceptance in his creative practice and his battle in the discovery of his position in the art world. A challenging work to produce, not only due to the delicacy of material, but the inner confrontation needed to allow an aspect of vulnerability.
